Filed in the “I am not at all surprised by this” department, it looks like organic entries are beating out paid entires in the SERP’s by a huge factor.

How many ads do you click? For me, virtually none (I am in the 94% percent).

The other interesting thing? 68% of searchers clicked one of the top 3 SERP results. So you will want to be aiming for that top 3 for sure.

The research has been done by GroupM UK and Nielsen, and published by eConsultancy. A sample of over one point four billion searches conducted by twenty eight million United Kingdom peeps in June 2011.

Might have been better to get a sample from other countries as well, but you would think in general Australia, the United States and others would report similar results.

Whats the takeaway here? You want to be ranking in the organic searches, thats the unsurprising thing (for me). One thing they did not mention was the type of organic results clicked on. I mean it’s not just text these day, it can be images, reviews, videos and a ton of other things. That breakdown would have been pretty cool to see.
